Well, although Release 12 is part of Oracle's Launch Event on January 31st, it may not be available for shipping or download on at the time of the release event.
Steven Chan wrote an interesting post, suggesting that we all exercise some prudence regarding R12 availability. You can read that post here.
Seems I jumped to the false conclusion that a launch event means that something gets launched. That assumption holds true for ships and rockets, but experience indicates that it is not a valid assumption for software. In this case, the launch event may simply mean an announcement of future availability.
*sigh* I just love this business...
